for voice and piano
This work is set to a Latin text taken from the Litany of Saint Joseph (traditional Catholic devotion prayer) and was composed for mezzo-soprano and piano in December 2018. The piano accompaniment throughout is very sparse. In the first part of the work (miserere nobis), the voice sings a cappella. This is followed by the piano adding an open chordal accompaniment to the ora pro nobis section. In the final part (Kyrie eleison), the piano acts as a choir substitute in a call-and-response litany form, where the voice alternates with the piano in a style known as responsorial singing.
