song for voice and piano

Somewhat minimalistic in style, the ghostly tale makes much use of the piano’s very low and high registers, which gives rise to an eerie and mysterious effect.  Written in November 2018 for mezzo-soprano/alto with piano accompaniment, Haunted Houses is set to American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem of the same name.  Centering round the double harmonic scale of D minor, the piece ends as mysteriously and unexpectedly as it began.
