Completed in May 2015, this short choral work for children’s choir – with piano and violin accompaniment – was commissioned by Forest Preparatory School (Altrincham) for the Bellevue Education Northern Music Festival 2016. I Remember was premiered at the Festival in April 2016 by the Forest School Choir. The words are taken from the first 3 verses of Thomas Hood’s poem “I Remember, I Remember”. With its solo voice passages, 3 & 4 part harmony and syncopated accompaniment, the work is quite challenging for young children. The violin makes its entry after the first verse, playing a variation of the opening theme in its high register. This is followed by frequent interplay between the violin and voices over a continuous syncopated accompaniment.
