Kontakia

Choral

Completed in early 2015, Kontakia (plural of “kontakion” meaning “pole” in Greek, where a scroll containing liturgical text was wound around a pole, unfurling as the text was read), is made up of 5 kontakions, set to sacred latin texts representing the religious observance of Lent in the liturgical calendar.   These hymns for Lent are written for unaccompanied male voice choir and incorporate solo chanting, bass drone effects, antiphons and responses, rich choir harmonies and a number of features which epitomize the Russian Orthodox liturgy.
